THE MAKING OF ASOS DESIGN X MILLIE!

The moment we’ve been waiting for is here: ASOS DESIGN x Millie has officially DROPPED 🎉 In case you missed it, we've been working with the Love Island winner (and former ASOS Assistant Buyer) since last year – first on a Style Edit of her fave ASOS DESIGN pieces, and now on a bona fide collection of her own! This time around, she was involved in every part of the process, from design concepts all the way through to our shoot in the LA hills. To get the tea, we chatted to our Millie Moo about the making of ASOS DESIGN x Millie – from ASOS to SoCal, baby!
THE DESIGN PROCESS

Where does any great collection begin? With a mood board, ofc! ‘I imagined what the collection would look like, what kind of prints would be in it – and I spent ages gathering images and ideas,' Millie explains. Along with refs from Dua Lipa, her fave runway looks and some inspiring Insta snaps from key influencers, her personal style was a big part of the blueprint. ‘I like loud prints and colour in my day-to-day – anything that stands out' – and she was adamant that the materials should be 'structured but stretchy', so that fellow 'in-between-size' girls could find the perf fit. She also took some inspo from her iconic Villa wardrobe: ‘There are co-ords I wore on Love Island that inspired some of our shapes.’

Your spring/summer wardrobe is about to get 10,000 times brighter thanks to Millie’s sunset-inspired suits (a perf wedding-guest ‘fit, according to Millie), bold co-ords and spicy dresses: 'With this line, I want people to feel sexy and confident, and experiment with bolder shades – colour shouldn't be scary!' Her fave pieces? 'I love the pink two-piece with the bralet and trousers – I'd wear it with heels to go out with Liam or the girls, or with trainers on a summer day.' She’s also a HUGE fan of the orange and patterned suits: 'They’re just so extra and you get four separate outfits out of each of them!'

THE SHOOT

So, why was Cali the perf place for the shoot? ‘The collection is ideal for holidays, and I wanted capture that vibe – life is just so good when you’re on vacation, right?!’ The shoot – her first visit to LA – was a real pinch-me sitch: ‘That first day shooting in Beverly Hills was soooo surreal,’ she recalls. ‘The view was insane and it was just a super-meaningful moment.’ But it wasn't all work and no play – Millie also served some looks at the Hollywood sign (‘Iconic!’), the Grove (‘Imagine Bicester Village but with LA sunshine – the DREAM’ 😂) and In-N-Out Burger – but her fave restaurant was Jon & Vinny's Italian. ‘I saw they had vodka pasta and I HAD to try it – if it's good enough for Gigi Hadid...’ (IYKYK) ‘It’s the nicest thing I’ve ever eaten!’ Take notes, foodies 🍝
Millie's no stranger to shoots at this stage, but she loves learning from models like Rachel Thabior (above) – who we shot to show off the line's ASOS Curve selection: 'I'm not a proper model, and Rachel was serving these looks and doing these poses and I was like WOW!' Millie recalls. 'I took so many tips from her!'

By carrying on with her house renovations! 'We’ve got this cinema room, and we've been meaning to get this bloody projector screen up, so I need to make a move on that.' On that note, we have to ask how life is in Essex with Liam. 'I love it!' she gushes. 'We have a good thing going on. He makes sure he goes home to Wales to see his friends and family often – and we've just had spare beds delivered so now they can come stay with us, too.' Sounds like summer 2k22 is gonna be super-fun for the pair – and for you too with these OUTFITS 🤩
