If your skincare know-how is about as basic as ‘don’t use makeup wipes’ and ‘moisturise, moisturise, moisturise’ (cos, same), it’s kinda overwhelming when you’re facing (lol) the millions of skincare products and skincare routines online. Serums? When do we apply a serum?! Is that before or after crying over that super-small-yet-surprisingly-expensive pot of eye cream?

Don’t panic – we ALL know what stress does to skin 🙃 You can totally chill, cos our Face + Body team have done the groundwork so you don’t have to! Consider this a low-key ✨crystal clear✨ guide to nailing your skincare steps, without any ridiculously complicated terms. And if you’re a skincare pro, keep scrolling to discover our fave products, all taken from the ASOS Face + Body edit.

Our easiest and best skincare routine:

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm 125ml | ASOS Style Feed

Before we get to cloud-like creams and perfectly plump skin, don't forget to remove your makeup! And we’re not talking a quick wash with water (tho, that’s kinda OK in the morning). In the evening, it's great to give your face a proper clean to get rid of any dirt or makeup. Enter: the cleanser. Using a cleanser removes sweat, pollutants, oil and of course your beaut makeup look in a way water can’t. It’s a skincare routine essential and it’ll help the products in the next steps absorb into your skin. Basically, if you don’t do this, you might as well not do the whole routine. Now that we’re getting straight to the facts, it’s also worth noting that cleansing with *lukewarm* water is ideal 🧖‍♀️

NUXE Very Rose Refreshing Toning Mist 200ml | ASOS Style Feed

If you want the best-possible base, try applying a toner to clean and dry skin after cleansing. This liquid wonder removes any remaining dirt, oil or makeup. Is it essential? Probably not, but it's a great additional step to help remove dead skin cells and keep your skin hydrated. JSYK: your toner shouldn’t smell too much of alcohol or leave your skin irritated or dry. It's best to go for one with gentle ingredients to give you that soft clean finish.

The INKEY List Niacinamide Serum 30ml | ASOS Style Feed

Serum 101: a liquid or gel that contains ✨active✨ ingredients to target specific skin concerns. Whether it's wrinkles, blemishes or anything else that's bothering you, a serum could help fix it. Giving dull ‘I haven’t slept in days’ skin? A Vit C serum might just be your new best friend. Got dark spots or pigmentation you'd like to even out? Opt for a serum with extra niacinamide (soz, we said no difficult terms but this is one worth knowing). And if you’re wondering what the difference is between a serum and a moisturiser (🙋 been there, done the digging), it’s more than just a difference in texture. A serum sorts out any particular issues while a moisturiser keeps the skin hydrated and healthy. Told yaaaa – skincare doesn’t have to be complicated!

Mario Badescu Caffeine Eye Cream 14g | ASOS Style Feed

Small in size, big in potential... Yep, we’re talking eye creams. Here to help minimise puffiness, even skin tone and lessen the appearance of dark circles and fine wrinkles, these mini pots are a star in any skincare routine. But *when* to apply eye cream? With its ultra-thin texture (perf for that delicate under-eye area), it's best applied before slathering any luxuriously thick moisturisers. Thinner products can’t work through thicker products – it's worth sticking to the rules with this one. There's just nothing better than (ever-so-gently) patting on a cool eye cream after a loooooong day. Aaaand relax...

Dr.Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Calming Gel Cream 50ml | ASOS Style Feed

For super-soft healthy-looking skin, moisturise, moisturise, moisturise – morning and night! A moisturiser helps to keep your skin hydrated and strong (read: glowy and loooovely), but srsly how does it ACTUALLY work? Well, slathering on that moisturiser stops water from escaping the outer layer of your skin (that’s why we’re doing this at the end of the routine💡). Plus, it acts as a protective barrier against frosty szn, dry air (we're over itchiness 👋) and everything in between. Still not convinced? A moisturiser helps seal in the products from previous steps so they can work to their best potench. We say it’s an absolute must. And if you’ve already use this do-all wonder in your daily routine, why not level up with some of our faves?

Murad Essential C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF30 PA+++ 50ml | ASOS Style Feed

Last but CERTAINLY not least is a step you'll need each morning (and gorgeous gorgeous girls can switch it for face oil in their nighttime routine). We’re talking sunscreen, AKA the ONE thing that’ll help protect you from premature ageing, worsened acne scars and, yes, skin cancer. But it’s winter, you say? Well, the sun’s UV rays are always there, even when it's cloudy-AF outside. But there’s SPF in my moisturiser AND foundation? It needs to be *at least* SPF 30 for you to be gtg – plus, it's always recommended that you use a separate suncreen for full coverage. And if you still think sunscreen is a greasy spot-inducing trap (we get it), take a look at the range of textures available in our range of sun creams to help make you look and feel good while still protecting your skin.
