THE BEST ROUTINE FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE

By Amelia Bell, 31 August 2019

When it comes to skincare right now, scientific buzzwords are cropping up faster than you can say 'retinol'. But with so many new (and confusing) ingredients, how do you find the right products and routine for your skin? To save you the endless searching, we teamed up with The Ordinary – the pros creating advanced formulas at affordable prices – to lay out five different skincare regimes based on different skin types. From dry to dull skin, pigmentation to breakouts, here’s a handy but high-tech skincare guide tailored just for you.

Your skin query: dry skin
Dry, rough skin can have many environmental causes (the weather being the main offender), but it’s easy to add moisture to the skin using a few key ingredients: hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, while plant-derived squalane helps prevent loss of hydration. Both are equally important to ensure skin stays hydrated in warm weather.

Your ingredients
Hyaluronic Acid 2% +B5
Hyaluronic Acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. The addition of Vitamin B5 in The Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 also enhances surface hydration.

Natural Moisturising Factors + HA
These are elements that keep the outer layer of the skin protected and well hydrated.

100% Plant-Derived Squalane
Squalane is an exceptional hydrator that can prevent ongoing loss of hydration. It's non-comedogenic (which means it's unlikely to cause pores to block) and is suitable for all skin types.

Your routine
Use in the AM
Step 1: Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
Step 2: Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA

Use in the PM
Step 1: Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

Your skin query: fine lines
To prevent or reduce the appearance of fine lines, The Ordinary’s Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane has a similar effect to retinol but without causing any irritation (one of the drawbacks usually associated with vitamin A). Adding a 'buffet' morning and night, and Rose Hip Seed Oil in the evening will also target signs of ageing.

Your ingredients

This is a multi-peptide serum that targets the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and general signs of ageing.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
Hyaluronic Acid is the Holy Grail when it comes to hydration as it can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water.

Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane
This is a 2% concentration of a next-generation retinoid that’s been shown to offer better effects against the signs of ageing than retinol.

Rose Hip Seed Oil
Pro-Vitamin A to target fine lines and enhance radiance, Rose Hip Seed Oil also reduces signs of photo-ageing and supports overall skin health.

Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG
This product can help reduce the look of puffiness and dark circles in the eye contour.

Your skin query: congestion and breakouts
Acne, blackheads, and spots are never good. Caused by hormones and the overproduction of oil, you can reduce breakouts by incorporating acids into your routine. Just be careful which acids you use and when you use them... a good combo is to apply niacinamide daily and The Ordinary's Salicylic Acid 2% Masque once or twice a week.

Your ingredients
Niacinamide
Niacinamide helps reduce the appearance of skin blemishes, congestion and sebum production whilst zinc helps to balance visible aspects of sebum activity.

Salicylic Acid 2% Masque
This masque is formulated to target lacklustre tone and texture irregularities by targetting the removal of dead skin cells on the surface of oily and blemish-prone skin.

Natural Moisturising Factors + HA
