WHY IT'S ALWAYS RUCHE HOUR RN

By Nelly Gergi, 9 August 2019

Gather together everyone, cos this season ruching is back. Yes that's right – joining the likes of shoulder pads and power suits, 80s gathered fabric has returned, and the result is some seriously good crinkly dresses. So, whether it’s a drawstring frock that allows you to ‘ruche as you go’ or a fully pleated-up ensemble, let us introduce you to your new go-everywhere essential.

UK label House of Holland is best known for bold colours, loud prints and a DGAF attitude. And for SS19, the label continued that aesthetic, presenting a collection filled with acidic shades, form-fitting silhouettes and sporty details. There were some nice ruched pieces on show, too, like this sick blue dress, which was styled with techy sandals and colour-block accessories.

Here, ASOS Elizabeth shows off what we would call the perfect outfit for your Sunday brunch. Sporting an effortless bandeau midi dress that is giving us all the 80s feels, she pairs it with flatform Tommy Hilfiger flip-flops. And that miniature bag is the cherry on top. Iced coffee optional, but recommended.

Block colour? Check. Asymmetric hem? Check. Ruching options aplenty? Check. Being able to wear this anytime, anywhere? Check and check. Even better, the neutral shade allows for playful touches – so why wouldn’t you throw on a pair of neon socks and chunky trainers? Layer it with a jacket or throw on a chunky knit and boots.
