After months hidden beneath bundles of hats and scarves, we can finally let our hair down (or up) and get creative with some new summer styles. And this season it's all about the accessories: from embellished topknots and cool braids to all the clips you can fit on your head – we're dressing up our hair in a big way. So, whether you've got a wedding abroad or summer hours in need of celebrating, we've got new 'dos for every event on your summer calendar.

The easy braid
OOO or just dreaming of your next holiday? This braid will tackle the heat this summer (read: no more frizz) and looks more impressive than your average plait for the same amount of effort. Top tips: after applying the Aveda Thickening Tonic and Bumble and bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil (for extra shine), comb your hair into a ponytail using the ghd Carbon Tail Comb and use an Invisibobble to secure. Take a small portion of hair and tie around the hair tie, then secure with a clip. Plait your hair and tie as normal. Finally, fix with ghd Final Spray Shine to keep it in place all day, whatever the weather's saying.

The new topknot
Deliberately loose, intentionally messy, but never scruffy – SS19's topknot is a winner for creating an effortless work look (you can also dress it down with chunky trainers and a jumpsuit). It's super easy to do when you've only got five minutes in the morning, with no hair washing necessary. To get it right, you’ll need a couple of Face + Body faves on your side, plus a Glamorous 'J'adore' tortoiseshell clip. Use the Aveda Texture Tonic to give your hair some volume followed by a Tangle Teezer to brush it up into the right shape before winding your hair into a bun. And to create those loose little curls at your hairline? Use the ghd Classic Curling Tong. PS, best to save this one for second day-old hair (or third, or fourth...).

The hair clip(s)
Right now, hair clips are popping up in their hundreds – barrette clips, pearly slides, multicoloured resin, jewels – we’re more nostalgic than ever for the once humble hair clip. The best part? They can dress up any hairstyle and give an outfit a new spin, making them a great addition for summer occasions like weddings. Create loose waves (using the ghd Soft Curl Tong) to give your hairstyle a more relaxed feel before securing with your fave hair clip (and if you really want to shake things up, get creative and add as many as you can).
