3 WAYS TO BRING THE DRAMA THIS SEASON
By Eleanor Dunne, 15 May 2019
Drama is in the fashion air this season. Ruffles, corset details, balloon sleeves... not since our high-school production of Hamlet have we seen so much historical theatrics. But, while we love an OTT dress-up moment, no one wants to look like an extra from Pirates of the Caribbean in their day-to-day lives. So here’s three ways to bring some of that costume spirit to your look this season without going overboard.
To sleeve or not to sleeve
The easiest way to bring some stage-worthy vibes to your look? Start with your sleeves. The blouson beauties on this purple number make a major statement, while the sheer fabric and ruched front make it a top Shakespeare would be proud of. Down below, acid-wash denim adds an 80s edge, while barely-there heels up the glam factor.
Dress-up box
A floor-skimming dress is another excellent way to tap into the trend. This one is a little bit boho, a little bit renaissance thanks to its paisley print and lace inserts. Toughen up the look (and prep for any springtime puddles) up with lace-up boots by Dr Martens. This look is your transitional wear-everywhere dream this spring.
Big girdle blouse
It's a good thing proper corsets went out of fashion in the early 1900s (cos we enjoy breathing and eating), but we can’t help but crush on this top – it’s giving us all the period-drama vibes we need RN. Pair it with a slip skirt (yep, the one that everyone’s obsessed with) for a super-fem look. It’s that underwear-as-outerwear kinda thing and we’re 100% here for it. Some embellished add-ons along with the gold shade of the skirt create an opulent air – Marie Antoinette 2019, anyone?
