3 WAYS TO WEAR BRODERIE FOR SS19
By Justine Fedorowycz, 28 March 2019
Spring/summer klaxon: broderie is officially back on the sartorial agenda. The clothing version of those paper doilies that peek out from underneath your cake at afternoon tea, broderie anglaise (French for ‘English embroidery’) incorporates elements of embroidery, cutwork and lace, making it the ultimate warm-weather fabric. Keep scrolling for three ways to wear the trend in SS19.

All of the pretty

We love flowers, but the constant cutting, watering and rearranging? Not so much. Enter low-maintenance florals. Featuring embroidery layered over broderie, this breezy white dress is perfect for everything from spring picnics to al-fresco dinner dates. To finish, simply grab hold of a dinky clutch bag, a couple of bangles and some slip-on shoes (those matching mules, though).

Business, meet pleasure

Introducing the shirt your regular work shirts didn’t want you to see. Made for dress-down Fridays, it’s got all the components you’d expect from a classic cotton number (that crisp, lightweight feel, the pointed collar and buttoned cuffs), with the added bonus of a broderie update. Team with light-wash, wide-leg jeans and monochrome add-ons, including sharp ankle boots and a headscarf.

Mood = megawatt

The only holiday romance you need, this broderie mini dress is worth making space in your suitcase for with its off-shoulder sleeves and whimsical tie details. The best part? It can easily be dressed up or down, depending on whether you’re exploring the local sights or going out for evening cocktails – just swap your flats and shades for a pair of barely-there sandals when the sun goes down.
