FRESH EYESHADOW LOOKS TO TRY NOW

By Amelia Bell, 10 March 2019

Want to switch up your eye makeup? Look no further than MAC's new Art Library eyeshadow palettes. Each set has 12 different shades to help you mix it up and create your own colour canvas, from the burnt oranges of the Flame-Boyant palette to the bold blues and pink neons of the It's Designer set. To get you started, MAC's artists have designed a step-by-step guide to help you inject a splash of colour into your look.

Dom Skinner, MAC Senior Artist on the It's Designer palette

Step 1: All about the base: for shadow that sits and stays, scribble around the eye with MAC Power Eye Kohl in Feline then buff gently with a brush (or finger).

Step 2: Up the ante: apply Gallerina along the lid, then buff out towards the brow and lash line.

Step 3: Finish strong: use your finger to press Triennial Wave into the centre of your eye before blending out softly.

Pro tip: 'Apply shimmer accents with your fingertip – pressing colour gently over the eyelid helps the pigment to shine,' says Dom.

Rachel O’Donnell, MAC Senior Artist on the Flame-Boyant palette

Step 1: Curtain up: apply MAC Art Library Flame-Boyant's Rule shade across the eyelid – a strong colour foundation helps build a dramatic finish.

Step 2: Add some spark: with a firm brush, add Flame-Boyant to the inner corner of the eye.

Step 3: Take a bow: slick lashes generously with MAC In Extreme Dimension Mascara. Use the wand’s ball tip to apply densely at the root, then twist and twirl until they look spiky. Imperfection here is key.

Pro tip: 'Use the ball tip of a mascara wand to add depth and texture, before twisting lashes for a chic, clumpy, Twiggy-esque finish,' says Rachel.

Lesley Keane, MAC Senior Artist on the Nude Model palette

Step 1: But first, coffee: smudge MAC Eye Kohl in Coffee around the eye and into upper and lower lashes for a ‘my shadow won’t budge’ base.

Step 2: All about the batwing: sweep MAC Art Library Nude Model’s Pleasing To The Eye shade from eyelid to inner brow, then pull it out in a wing shape towards the temple. Build intensity with a fine brush of Sugar Plum, starting from the tear duct and wrapping around to the top of the lid. Extend the colour out towards the temple and brush a tiny bit more Sugar Plum into the inner brow.

Step 3: Strike a pose: apply Nude Model to the centre of your eyelid with a flat brush. Pencil MAC Power Eye Kohl all around the eye, then go for broke with MAC In Extreme Definition Mascara.

Pro tip: 'A healthy smudge of creamy kohl makes a strong base to build a dramatic eyeshadow look on,' says Lesley.
