V-DAY FRAGRANCES, TRIED AND TESTED
By Nelly Gergi, 9 February 2019
Let’s be real, it’s 2019 and it’s time we got creative with Valentine's Day gifting. While a good ol’ traditional perfume is always a good shout, it doesn’t mean you can’t think outside the (fragrance) box this 14 February. Here’s a sea of other nose-friendly alternatives, from rose-infused face mists to body melts, that will have you or your giftee smelling fresh and feeling silky.
There’s nothing quite like a perfumed product, whether your aim is to achieve a sweet-scented dewy finish or freshen you up throughout the day. So I tested six non-traditional ways of smelling delish. Verdict? There's a world beyond the perfume aisle, trust me.
Small but powerful, this little jar of body melt from Sister & Co has all the natural goods. Combining cold-pressed apricot oil with raw shea butter, it has the perfect texture that leaves you feeling far from sticky. I applied this after showering and it left my body with that natural moisturised glow. The infusion of lemon and vanilla is the perfect balance of fruity and sweet, in a sophisticated way.
If you’re looking for a scent that will also provide you with a bit of knowledge, I’ve got just the thing for you. This one tells us that kissing burns 6.4 calories a minute – who knew? It also has a sweet, milky smell and blends into your skin, leaving a subtle scent that will people will ask about. The compact size of this one is perfect for applying on the go and the packaging is a definite ice-breaker at dinner.
Award-winning London perfumery Shay & Blue knows its way around scents. Frambroise Noire is a unisex fragrance that starts off fruity and fades to deeper, woodier notes. It’s a concentrated formula, which means you only need a little spritz. Also, it looks great, so it'll pep up your next #shelfie.
Green tea and pear blossom sounds like something you can drink, but is actually just as delicious to smell. Made by Vera Wang, it's super light and fresh, which means it's ideal for a midday freshen-up. Since it's a body mist, it’s not overpowering, so you can spray away and it won’t clash with what you’re already wearing.
A bit of luxury in a pot, this Laura Mercier Creme Brulée Honey Bath is exactly what you need after a long day of commuting. It comes with its own little spool, so just dip it and run it under hot water and, hey presto, your bathroom is now a spa. Not only does it smell like you want to have spoonful of it on toast (don’t!), it’s filled with vitamins A and E to help condition and moisturise the body. The natural ingredients will firm, lift and tone the skin. Does that mean you can skip your workout and have a bath instead? I say yes.
Just when we thought Pixi's cult Glow Mist couldn’t get any better, they brought out a rose-infused version. It’s enriched with 13 natural oils and fruit extracts, and is basically the perfect all-rounder. As someone that loves a dewy finish, I spray this bad boy all over my face after doing my makeup. Keep it in your bag to top up during the day, cos we all know what a day in front of a screen does to you.
