EXFOLIATING SAVIOURS TRIED AND TESTED
By Nelly Gergi, 25 January 2019
January is finally coming to an end but, unfortunately, the cold is not and neither are the skin woes that come with it. Face feeling a bit dull? Body a bit dry? Fear not, cos next stop is exfoliation station. And believe, there is nothing like a face peel or body scrub to make you feel refreshed after a long cold day.
First up is the Clinique Pep-Start 2-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser. This baby will clean and exfoliate your face at the same time without feeling too abrasive, which makes it perfect for every day. It also magically removes dead skin cells and other impurities, leaving you looking fresh and glowy.
I’ve long been a fan of L’Oréal’s Pure Clay series and this one didn't disappoint. It’s basically a spa day in a pot, combining red algae extract and its brightening properties with milled apricot seeds to exfoliate dull and uneven skin. I applied a thin layer all over my face, left it for 10 minutes and then washed it off. The result? An oh-so-refreshed face (and mind).
You know what’s great? A skin routine that you can do whilst watching Netflix, like the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads, which I use before serums and moisturisers. They work like a toner so apply all over (don’t forget your neck!). The trick lies in the glycolic and lactic acids, which help exfoliate and improve skin tone. In addition, lemon peel naturally brightens your skin’s appearance.
Ameliorate Smoothing Body Exfoliant does exactly what it says on the bottle. It does lots of scientific stuff – but, to break it down, it works on bumpy skin, ingrown hairs, dry patches and basically everything in between. It left my whole body feeling and looking much softer.
I did say top to toe, so let's not forget the feet. They often get dry during winter – all tucked away in socks and boots until it’s time for sandals – so this exfoliating foot mask from MasqueBAR will no doubt save you a few £ at the nail salon. It comes with a masque for each foot which are to be worn for 60 to 90mins. The chamomile and natural fruit extracts left my feet feeling like I’ve just had a pedicure and, within two weeks, all my dead skin cells had just disappeared *poof*.
It smells so good, you’d think it’s edible (it’s not...). This sugar and honey scrub with gold glitter is the perfect party prep. The brown sugar helps remove rough dry skin whilst the honey leaves you feeling all smooth and silky. I used it before going out for drinks and not only did I smell heavenly and feel soft, it left an amazing gold shimmer all over my body.
