Makeup signatures
‘To do my ombre lips, use a black lipliner, then overline with brown lipstick. Go over again with black lipliner, blend with a cotton bud and dab foundation in the centre. I use an Ardell Pro Brow Defining Kit and put on a Glamglow face mask maybe four days a week.’

On looking like Lauryn Hill
‘[People point it out] every day. The braid situation I used to have was such a Sister Act moment. I did her daughter’s [Selah Marley] makeup last year and she said, “You really look like my mum, this is so weird.”’

Breaking free with beauty
‘I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup until I was 16, started working at 19, now I’m 20. Doing makeup has allowed me to be free with the looks I create, work with men who love wearing makeup and dispel stereotypes. Beauty is self-care, self-love, making yourself cuter.’

‘I really look up to the legendary Pat McGrath. My mentors are Sharmadean Reid, Grace Ladoja, [gal-dem’s] Liv Little and Portia Ferrari. They give me advice because I’m so young.’

On launching her makeup line Mata Labs
‘I make my cruelty-free products in my kitchen using UK-sourced ingredients. Mata Labs is all glowy skin. I’m starting with highlighters in light, medium and dark and three lipgloss shades. I’ve selected five muses and one’s a guy.’

Party trick
‘Mix talcum powder with a darker powder, like the Laura Mercier one, then bake your face and dust it off after five minutes. Your makeup won’t move.’
