SUMMER PARTY STAFF STYLE
By Grace Cook, 9 August 2018
Wherever you work, the summer party is a much-hyped event and one you’re not about to miss. But if we're honest, the summer shindig is harder to dress for than the Christmas party, when the obligatory sequins/velvets/metallics come out of the closet. Figuring out what to wear to a hot-weather work event requires more sartorial pondering – what isn’t too revealing, is cool yet comfortable, and, more than anything, nails the trends? Here at ASOS HQ, we rounded up the best looks from our annual bash to help decode the dress code.
A floral dress is a failsafe essential, but this vivid shade of green worn by ASOSer Lottie makes it look entirely new. With button detailing and a pleated midi skirt, this fresh take on the classic is cool enough to style with sneakers – but will look just as good later (AKA in winter), worn with ankle boots and a jumper thrown over the top. Style with a cross-body bag for an easy peasy style that keeps your focus on having fun. Insider tip: this dress now comes in white too.
Cute ruffly cotton dresses are all the rage RN, thanks to the likes of Ganni and The Vampire's Wife. Reminding us of Anne of Green Gables in all the best ways, this checked dress worn by ASOS Insider Lotte is given a timely update with a mini length and frilled trims for that added bit of flamenco fun. Bonus points for it being cool enough to wear to a party but casual enough to later be thrown on top of a bikini on vacay. Best styled with sneakers or flat sandals.
How to turn a pair of statement work-appropriate trousers into an outfit suitable for partying? By teaming them with a simple lacy cropped bralet, that's how. Underwear as outerwear is a trend with serious sticking power, and this lacy halterneck version that ASOSer Ellie sports ticks all the boxes. After all, your boss is going to be there... Perfect teamed with a lace-up sandal to further loosen the boardroom vibes – these ribbon-tie ones are just the ticket, with a low heel to make sure you can dance all night.
Leopard print is everywhere this season, giving florals a run for their money as the must-wear summer print. This loose-cut mini dress worn by ASOSer Lucy is perfect for warm-weather parties – it needs hardly any styling, can be worn on its own or thrown on over jeans, and is perfect paired with sneakers or heeled boots. Update with a classic pair of Converse high-tops and an ankle sock for your next festival and finish it off with a cutesy backpack for the ultimate 90s mood.
