I’ve been very lucky this year, because summer 2018 has been nothing short of fantastic. As well as the amazing weather in the UK, I’ve eaten my weight in Portuguese tarts over in, well, you guessed it, Portugal, and have spent lazy days pretending to be in some old-school romantic novel in Tuscany. But on both of these trips, I seriously underestimated what beauty bits I’d need to take along with me.

So, to make sure I’m ready for my next trip abroad – and to help you out, too, of course – I sampled the best holiday beauty buys available on ASOS, right now. Get prepped in 3, 2, 1…

As part of your haircare routine, it’s common practice to forget all about your roots – and let me just say that that’s a HUGE mistake. Your roots need extra TLC in the summer because the sun, the salty sea and the chlorinated pool are not on our side. That’s where this incredible pre-shampoo treatment from Philip Kingsley comes in. Give your hair a quick rinse and split it into sections, cover with a shower cap and leave the treatment in for 10-20 mins before thoroughly washing it out. My hair instantly looked shinier and felt ultra-soft – try it for yourself and see!

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Conditioner Pre-Shampoo Treatment, £32

South Korean beauty products have received a lot of hype over the last year or so – and with good reason. OK, so an eight-step travel mask sounds as extra as it gets, but it’s so worth it for the amount of suitcase space it’ll save you. I mean, it’s an express beauty treatment for both your hair and skin in one nifty package: there’s a body wash, a 2-in-1 shampoo, cleansing oil, a cleaning facial foam, a toning serum, a gold jelly mask, a booster lotion and a moisturiser.  And as an added bonus (yep, there’s even more), because it’s flat, you don’t need to play Tetris to fit it into your case. Absolute dream.

Oh K! 8-Step Travel Mask, £15

In summer, you clearly don’t want to put anything on your face that’s going to make you look even sweatier (highlighters and the gorgeous glow they offer don’t count, of course). That’s the big dilemma that I always experience when it comes to trying out new facial products at this time of the year. Problem solved, though! Ideal for all skin types and with an ultra-lightweight, fast-absorbing formula, this serum from It’s Skin is enriched with vitamin A to boost elasticity, protect your skin, and to help balance out the amount of oil that our skin produces. Applying a few drops to clean skin is more than enough, so it’s highly probable that you’ll keep using this little bottle well after your holiday’s over.

It's Skin Power 10 VE Glow Serum, £12

If you aren’t one of the lucky ones who’s already been off sunbathing and enjoying a mojito/your favourite gelato by the pool, then treat this as your pre-summer holidays appetiser. The size isn’t ideal for a carry-on bag, but that’s OK, because it’s best to make use of this bad boy beforehand. Personally, I’m not a major fan of self-tanning lotions, but all others I’ve tried in the past pale in comparison to this one. This vegan-friendly lotion is a complete game changer – it dries really quickly, is easy to use to achieve full coverage and its hydrating formula leaves your limbs looking soft and shiny. Mini-skirt season, let’s go!

Tan Luxe Instant Hero Illuminating Skin Perfector, £22

When you’re off on holiday, nailing that messy-but-not tousled hair look is a top priority, but you want to be able to achieve it with little-to-no effort. Cue this ocean spray (get it?) in a bottle. It’s infused with rice protein to improve the health of your hair and it’s free from parabens – what’s not to love?! Oh, and it’s super-light, so it feels like you don’t have any product in your hair. Beach babe coming through!
