3 WAYS TO NAIL THE 90s
By Maybelle Morgan, 19 June 2018
It’s the decade that gave us everything from the Union Jack dress (yes Geri), to vibrant streetwear à la The Fresh Prince and oh-so-teensy coloured sunnies via the tween-era Olsens. And while certain trends will always remain suspect (you know who you are), some retro staples are still worshipped in our wardrobes to this day. For an SS18 twist, it’s all about cutesy, clashing prints and combos. Here are three ways to style it up…

Be there or be square
If you don’t hear Cher Horowitz’s reviling 'as if' every time you look at a checked skirt suit, then it’s time to brush up on your 90s film trivia. For a modern, more wearable take on the Clueless look, try a two-piece in lime-green checks with a cool cropped jacket. To make it daytime-appropriate, it’s all about balance. A vintage-style grab-handle bag and frilly white socks up the preppy factor, but a jersey white crop top and chunky dad trainers keep the look street-style fresh.

Sweetie pie
SS18 has seen the return of tacky fun fashion, and we couldn’t be more pleased. Yep, it’s all about cute staples and unlikely pairings – a tiny gingham bralet (with tulle trimming, no less) matched with high-waisted light-wash denim (cropped just above the knee) and a perspex belt. To finish? Satin sling-backs and some super-kitsch cherry earrings. So good.

Welcome to the jungle
And when it’s time to head out for your evening antics? Right now, the rule of thumb is more is more. So let your centrepiece be this disco-ready mini dress in dazzling blue leopard print. For accessories, near shoulder-grazing ear bling goes hand-in-hand with glitzy silver heels. And then a studded chain grab-handle bag adds yet another dose of drama to the ensemble.
