THE WHITE SHIRT REINVENTED

The white shirt is an undisputed wardrobe hero, bringing an instant level of freshness to all outfits involved. And now for SS18, the motto is ‘more, more, more’, as the staple piece goes oversized and double in length. But it’s as much about how you wear it, as what you wear, so get ready to rethink your everyday silhouettes and layer up for a bold spring twist. Here’s how to nail the look…

The shirtdresses of yore have sported a nipped-in waist or belt. But for SS18, the models at Jil Sander hit the catwalk blurring the lines between maxi lengths, tailoring and Scandi. This season’s shirts had a distinct nightie feel: toe-skimming, up-and-down gown cut and cuffed to graze the tips of fingers. White accessories and minimal strand jewellery upped the £££ feel.

If you just panicked at the thought of wearing neck-to-toe white, don’t worry – us too. A cooler compromise is ASOS Insider Hannah’s v. chic silhouette shake-up. White shirting is worn down to the knees, but with the sleeves rolled up and layered over cropped wide-leg trousers in preppy golfer-green checks. Black socks peep out at the ankle, with uber-chunky platforms to give the look a slight 90s vibe. A brown leather boho bag finishes the eclectic easy-to-nail look.

And now, to try the trend yourself? This knee-skimming Monki shirt dress comes in an oversized fit, and we’re crushing hard on the tux-style curved hem detailing. For a gentle foray into the style, take notes from ASOS Insider Hannah and pair with either cropped raw-edge denim, or for more impact, go monochrome and try black kick-flares, ribbed socks and chunky Dr. Marten shoes.
