STREET-STYLE TAKEAWAYS FROM NYFW AW18
By Maybelle Morgan, 14 February 2018
Yep, it’s that time of year again, where the fashionable masses descend on the world's clothing capitals, all wrapped up in sartorial goodness for some slow-motion pavement crossing and FROW-perching. Here are the best looks we spotted at New York Fashion Week AW18.

Hair fanfare
Why so serious? This season, the show-goers were all about looking on the lighter and brighter side of life, with kitsch and OTT accessories in tow. Our fave was the primary school-esque crocodile clips pinned into middle-parted hair (the more embellished, rainbow coloured or sequinned the better).

Checkmate
Heritage checks dominated last year and are still very much the talk, and walk, of the town. The traditional belted mac gets a souped-up reboot in 2018 with sharp streaks of pink and a glossy plastic finish. Layered over an all-cream-everything outfit, with magenta socks peeking out underneath the mom jean turn-ups, what we’ve got here is a classic-meets-cool style situation.

Rain or shine
Speaking of plastic, the much-anticipated Blade Runner reboot made the squeaky stuff – and all things futuristic – a priority once again. But instead of the clear window-pane look, the show-goers stopped traffic with siren reds and printed styles in boxy Scandi macs. Then, colour coordination and trend-led detailing (check those Western boots) upped the fun factor.

Utility belt
Ah, utility. Functional and fuss-free, we love you for your Scandi leanings and minimal silhouettes. Caroline Daur put utility dressing back on the map for AW18, with a head-to-toe tailored outfit. A cropped olive green leather jacket with all the boxy trimmings was paired with crisp tapered trousers and finished off with chunky Timberland boots. A bumbag slung across the body then added a cool-casj element.

Cosy and it knows it
Borg, shearling and anything moderately cosy dominated our wardrobes last year – and the AW18 street-style pack let it be known that it wasn’t going anywhere for fashion month. The teddy fur looked best in bright reds/corals, as well as oversized and on top of snug layers like roll-neck knits and flannel shirts.
