HOW TO DO COLD WEATHER TEXTURE
By Maybelle Morgan, 11 February 2018
These are uncertain times. Right now, three Ws occupy every getting-dressed consideration (winter, wind, waterproofs, FYI), so it can be easy to forget that actually it is the perfect time to up the lush-factor on your day outfits – without worrying about overheating or looking like Leo’s double in The Revenant. Someone who has this very nuanced skill down is German blogger Swantje Soemmer, with this bundled-up and blissful getup. Here’s how to get the look.

Textured pieces offer much-needed relief from squeaky rain cover-ups, but the key to successfully incorporating a smorgasbord of feels is subtlety and shape. Mash up cosy fabrics with more muted staples to keep it balanced, and add hardware detailing into the mix to clash up the soft with something fierce.

Swantje has the right idea with a cropped faux-fur coat, but for a more spring-friendly alternative – and with nods to the western trend doing the rounds right now – opt for an earthy suede jacket. Fitted over a boxy petrol-blue denim number it gives the outfit some layered depth and the matching utility jeans are a Scandi-cool co-ord win.
A white longline top mixes up the silhouettes and brightens up the colour palette, and then for more texture? A cutesy borg clutch bag brings an additional dose of cosy, and finally, finish with some badass pointed buckle booties to add some anarchy to all the softness.
