HOW TO WEAR 80s DENIM (LIKE AN ASOSER)
By Maybelle Morgan, 17 August 2017
If you’ve ever openly coveted the wardrobes of the the gang in Saved By The Bell or Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, you’re in luck right now. The return of the late 80s this season has seen the reintroduction of nostalgic denim, so prepare to be geared up in acid wash, neon brights and loud animal print galore (thankfully, without a mullet in sight). See how the ASOS team are working it…
Power dressing
Your fave denim dress just got the 80s power-suit treatment. So that's a Dynasty-style wrap front, cinched waist and a means-business wide collar – all in dreamy mid-wash blue. Estelle keeps the retro theme going strong by layering it over a fishnet top (check the neon peekaboo zip) and some bold, chunky, technical sneaks.

Furry good
If you didn’t have an oversized denim jacket in the late 80s and early 90s, were you even there? For SS17, it’s had a grunge-meets-Clueless style overhaul and it involves distressed detailing plus one slammin’ baby-pink faux-fur collar. Emma wears hers over a silky PJ-style shirt dress while hot-pink tassel earrings and chunky metallic platforms up the fun.

Welcome to the jungle
In true 80s fashion, leopard print goes megawatt this season in fiery reds and brights. Bella shows that two is better than one with a cutesy co-ord featuring a cropped denim jacket and high-waisted skirt. To avoid going OTT with the 80s look, keep the rest simple with a black vest and classic skate sneaks.

Shoulder it
Witness a meeting of this season’s two biggest style crushes, with millennial pink and princessy puff shoulders merging in this denim long-sleeved top. A great way to add a subtle 80s touch to your every day outfit, Francesca finishes the look with a black raw-edge mini, black Converse and some 90s hoop earrings.

Armed and ready
Proof that cutesy picnic checks and retro silhouettes make for a formidable combination? This dreamy pairing from Lottie, layering a balloon-sleeved denim jacket over a floaty gingham drop-waist dress. To balance out the looser shapes, simple white high-tops round off that late 80s vibe perfectly.
