5 BODY SCRUBS TO PREPARE YOU FOR THE SUN
By Estelle Adjei, 17 August 2017
If you’re getting ready to leave the gloomy British weather behind you and jet off to a warmer place, you'll want to prep your skin for the sun with these body scrubs. Tried and tested just for you, there's even a little something for your feet – it's still sandals season after all...
Kinda like a facial for your body, a scrub exfoliates and hydrates your skin, leaving it fresh, moisturised and soft. It’s a summer essential for an even, long-lasting tan that'll glow when you’re back under fluorescent office lights. So, I tested five scrubs that promise a spa-worthy experience, without having to leave your own bathroom.
Ideal for dry skin like mine, this scrub from Yes To is 98% natural with a grain that doesn’t feel rough on the skin. Although it’s oilier than the others, it doesn't feel greasy at all and instantly soothes and hydrates. Plus, you’ll definitely be obsessed with the smell: a coconutty scent that lingers after use.
This all-natural scrub will re-energise your skin (hello, coffee!) and feels very gentle going on. However, it is a little messy and not the easiest to rinse off, so you might need some soap to remove it. As soon as I opened the packet, I could smell the sweet orange – great for moisturising your skin, it also helps prevent wrinkles and dryness due to sun exposure. That, combined with the extra-virgin coconut oil, works wonders. Also, you can use it as a face mask.
I was really surprised by the texture of this REN scrub – you barely feel the grains, and it melts into the skin. Unlike the others, I felt it worked better on dry skin rather than straight out of the shower. Whether you have oily or dry skin, this gem is a multitasker that left a soft and moisturised feeling, while the smell reminded me of the sea. With its plant and mineral formula, it's also the most natural-seeming of the products tested.
So fresh, so clean
More of a shower gel with exfoliating grains than a scrub, it’s designed to cleanse and gently exfoliate the skin leaving it silky smooth. With its fresh and zesty smell of mandarin, grapefruit and essential oils, you might be tempted to use more than needed. But at least you’ll get one of your five a day!
Trust the hype
I couldn’t pass up the chance to try this exfoliating foot mask so I could squeeze the last few drops out of sandals season! My feet felt soft and nourished, but you really have to keep the socks on for at least an hour to see the results. After a couple of days, the dead skin starts peeling off – which is a bit gross – but the results speak for themselves.
