FLASHBACK FRIDAY
9 things the Cruel Intentions girls would buy on ASOS
By Daisy Keens, 3 March 2017

1. Silky smooth
Championing the underwear-as-outerwear trend long before PJs were lauded daytime-appropes, Sarah Michelle Gellar's Kathryn opted for slinky slip dresses as daytime attire on the regs. This Glamorous midi ticks all the right boxes.

2. Elegantly waisted
In a plot twist Kathryn would be proud of, corsets have come hurtling to the forefront of the fashion world. She wore hers with nothing but a bra and pinstripe trews (ofc), but you can make yours AM-acceptable by layering over a fresh tee.

3. Mean business
Exaggerated silhouette? Tick. Pinstripes? Tick. Oversized fit? Tick. It's official: this blazer is throwback gold. Channel Kathryn in the PM by foregoing trousers in favour of some strappy mules. Nailed it.

4. (N)ice tee
You can't get much preppier than a Ralph Lauren polo top, so it seems only fitting that Cecile would bag this baby. Add a flared mini-skirt (of the pleated tennis variety, if poss) and you've basically nailed the 90s prep-ster aesthetic.

5. Super-duper shoes
Say hey to your fail-safe sneaks. Team with literally anything and see your style (and comfort levels) soar. Cecile would defo cop this pair, complete with flattering flatform.

6. Blossoming style
Ditsy-print dresses in a cami silhouette? Cecile – and basically the 90s – all over. Wear with the aforementioned flatforms (there's nothing those kicks won't work with), and if you're feeling really nostalgic, tie a cardi over your shoulders.

7. Little miss perfect
Before Lauren Conrad of The Hills, there was Reese Witherspoon (well, Annette, to be precise), schooling us in the artful deployment of an Alice band. LBR, 2K17's Annette would fully trade in her simple black band for this sassy-as velvet number.

8. Chic shirting
Definitive proof that a simple shirt is timeless? We've got it. Annette wore hers as is – partially buttoned up and a lil' untucked, but the memo for SS17 suggests fashioning yours into an off-the-shoulder situ. Same but different.

9. Too trew
Annette's style in a nutshell? Super-sweet with a mannish edge. Enter: the chino. Amp up the tailored element by adding that simple shirt to the mix or pull a Cecile and wear your polo. Either way, you've hit peak Cruel Intentions.
