BEAUTY TEST DRIVE

These five primers are basically life savers

Finding a primer that will keep your make-up in place without bringing you a whole lotta shine is a task to behold. But lucky for you the hard work's been done and the results are in! Here are five of the very best tried and tested. You're welcome...

It’s a new dawn

Your make-up life is about to change! Tired of having to touch up every other hour for fear of shining like a Christmas tree? I feel your pain, and to help solve our little problem, I volunteered (and rose up to the challenge faster than Katniss) to try a few so you won’t have to. All you have to do is pick your favourite.

The showstopper

If you’re looking for the one that will take you from day to night, without having to touch up, this Pixi primer is for you. With its shimmery golden colour, this gem not only smoothes out the skin, it also gives an airbrushed finish and brightens your complexion. I got so many complements while wearing it, I felt #flawless.

The matte effect

A little goes a long way with this primer. It has a velvety texture and instantly mattifies your skin, so you could actually wear it on its own, while also containing vitamins A, C and E (so healthy). If you have super-oily skin like me, you'll love it – my make-up didn’t budge an inch.

The French touch

Nars fans rejoice! This creamy, light and oil-free primer ticks all the right boxes. It moisturises perfectly and also has SPF. But depending on how oily your skin is, you might have to retouch your make-up – so I recommend it for normal-to-combination skin rather than overly oily skin types.

NARS Pro-Prime Light Optimising Primer SPF 15, £26

Like a goddess

Easy to apply, this primer comes in three different colours (clear, green and lavender). It mattifies with its silky finish, however its light coverage means you may have to apply a bit more, or, like me, you will have to get your brush and powder out.

NYX Studio Perfect Primer, £10

Double treat

This PETA-certified Australian brand has recently landed on ASOS and I’m loving it. It feels fresh on the skin and also acts as an anti-aging cream. Full of natural ingredients, it creates a perfect base for your make-up to stay all day. Depending on how oily your skin is, keep your blotting paper close, though!
