5 FRESH SS19 RUNWAY TRENDS
By Eleanor Dunne, March 21, 2019
We've been going on about for spring/summer 2019 for a while now — but yesterday was the first official day of spring, and you know what that means... It’s time to retire your heavy knits and coats and slip into something a bit lighter (and more fun). For a quick update, here are five trends that will freshen up your repertoire for the new season.
Ready to mobilize
Labels like Alberta Ferretti, Dior and Givenchy sent an army of models down the catwalk in utility-inspired separates in khaki shades for SS19. Whether you go for combats, a military jacket or some tough lace-up boots, tap into this one when you need some armor for a tough day ahead.
Bleach it out
The denim update for the new season? Bleach with a late '80s/early '90s vibe. Yep, we’re talking straight out of Saved by the Bell — think acid-wash jeans, dresses, jackets and even boots at labels like Balmain, Isabel Marant and Stella McCartney. A pair of mom jeans in this vein are ideal for your off-duty look, or wear them with a fancy top and heels for your next BNO.
Pastel me more
There’s a lot of color stories to choose from this season, from ultraviolet neon to top-to-toe beige. But to bring that spring magic to your line-up stat, look to pretty pastels like baby pink and pistachio green. Valentino, Tibi, Sies Marjan and lots more created SS19 collections around a pastel palette, giving us major inspo for a tailoring update or a spring wedding.
Come up shorts
You've seen them all over our feeds for the past couple of seasons thanks to the Kardashian/Yeezy effect, but SS19 was when legging shorts officially got the high-fashion nod of approval. Brands like Chanel, Fendi and Marine Serre made their own iterations, styled with everything from oversized blazers to crop tops.
Beach-ready frocks at Jacquemus, cowboy-style jackets at R13, trimmed skirts at Chloé... SS19 was all about the fringe benefits. This trend covers myriad aesthetics, from Western looks and glam '20s-inspired 'fits all the way up to bohemian vibes. Ideal for a festival or those late vacay nights out.
