3 WAYS TO WEAR THE LINGERIE TREND
By Maybelle Morgan, May 14, 2018
This past winter, it was tempting to stay blanket-draped in pajamas 24/7 — but instead we braved the outdoors in floaty, bed-style pants. Now spring has rolled around, we’re taking sleepwear to the next level, shedding the layers and opting for the chicer version of underwear as outerwear. From spring corsets to day-appropriate lacy slips, here are three ways to wear the lingerie-dressing trend…
The big reveal
At first mention, corsets may evoke images of medieval instruments of sartorial torture, but for SS18, the reality is pure broderie bliss. Case in point? This white textured crop top has the risqué addition of a brassiere-style neckline, but the dainty shoulder ties make it totally right for day. Keep it cool for sunny days by pairing it with off-white utility pants, and finish by clashing up the pretty with futuristic-vibe platform sandals. So good.
If the thought of donning lingerie for outerwear conjures up immediate fear, the slip skirt is your reliable middle man. The midi skirt is essentially a spring/summer staple, so opt for this delicate dressing upgrade. In silky jade green with a high side slit, it’s the hint-of-what’s-underneath contrast lace that really sets pulses racing. A white long-sleeve tee balances out the detailing in the look, and to break up the color, a '60s-style patterned bumbag and metal-capped western boots.
Want a change from denim shorts this festival season? It’s all about adding in that one racy piece to inject some eclectic finesse. Too pretty to keep in the bedroom, we’re talking white high-waisted shorts, with a delicate fringe of lace peeking out underneath. Avoid veering too much into lingerie territory by adding cool skate-style features. A tucked-in check shirt immediately grunges the whole deal up, and high sports socks plus chunky '80s technical sneakers introduce a retro, street-style element. Finish with a pop of color (and texture) via a bold Instagram favorite: a netted red bag.
