Long gone are the days when double denim was shunned and wrongfully resigned to the 2000s cringeworthy section of our sartorial history (thanks Britney and JT). When done well, the Canadian tuxedo can be a powerful outfit choice, imparting double the spring impact with the fabric’s lighter, cooler and carefree vibes. And it all hangs in the balance of the fit, wash and style. Taking inspo from these street-stylers, here are three ways to style it.

Street styler wearing slogan denim co-ords

Logos. A fun trickle-down twist from the '80s trend, it’s still all about making a statement, but bold colors are swapped out for something spring-friendly. Your favorite denim pieces (in this case, a jacket-jean co-ord) get reworked with white slogan print. To keep all eyes on the wording, stick to a muted palette: a plain white tee, plus fresh white plimsolls and a black leather shoulder bag do the trick well.

Functional, minimal and with not a seam out of place, utility dressing gives outfits an effortlessly put-together feel, elevating them without the smart workwear commitment. And the same applies to denim pieces. Case in point? This street-styler giving all the dedication in an inky blue. On top is a contrast-stitch denim jacket, paired up with matching raw-edge jeans. A brown turtleneck softens the color palette, likewise the cherry-brown cowboy boots, while a pop of color comes from a warm mustard grab-handle bag.

In the long run

An instant way to add cooler, older vibes to any outfit? Play with your silhouette (e.g. elongate some elements of your get-up and shorten others). This street-styler goes for effortless Scandi vibes with a double denim look that does exactly this, but in just-threw-this-on mismatching shades. A lighter-wash oversized jean jacket goes knuckle-skimming on the sleeves, and longer past the thigh for length. Pairing it with darker cropped wide-leg jeans gives some cool color depth to the get-up. To finish, brown suede sock boots go right up to the leg hem, and a sleek chain hardware bag adds some chic structure.
