PROOF SCANDI STREET STYLE ALWAYS WINS
By Maybelle Morgan, February 7, 2018
When it comes to matters of the wardrobe, there’s no denying that our Scandi neighbors have that distinctly effortless and cool thing well and truly nailed down. And while the style aesthetic usually conjures images of minimal, functional cuts and clean tailoring, the FW18 showgoers at Stockholm Fashion Week made a louder entrance this year. Case in point? Fashion editor Jeanette Friis Madsen and her blogger mate Emili Sindlev making "go bright or go home" cold-weather dressing a major priority…
Looking like they were plucked straight out of a Wes Anderson storyboard or a gelato display, the head-to-toe color scheme here was sugary-sweet sherbet. For Jeanette, limoncello flowing pants were paired with an ice blush cashmere top and smartened up with a matching blazer, before white heeled boots upped the retro vibes. BFF Emili opted for a more eclectic granny-chic get-up, with a '70s-style longline top over silky pink pants and a plum check scarf clashing up the prints.
If there was ever a color palette to make the heart swoon, this is it. Icy aqua tones + richer royal blues = pristine preppy matchings. Jeanette played the silhouettes game by pairing an oversized v-neck knit with a pastel pleated midi skirt. White pointed booties kept the look fresh and bright, with the orange-tan clutch adding some warmer notes. Then, it was all about texture for Emili’s look. A turquoise silky blouse (points to the very Scandi high neck and exaggerated cuffing) tucked into a deeper suede pleated midi. Finally, chestnut leather knee-high boots anchored the 'fit.
Clash of the titans
Rules are made to be broken, right? Usually an unforgiving color combo, red and pink gets a welcome reimagining in the form of Jeanette’s jewel-toned chilly-weather look. A cozy turtleneck (props to the XXL sleeves) gets tucked into high-waisted floor-skimming pants, while pointy black boots streamline the assemble. Emili goes for the aesthetic known as "more is more, and then a little bit more." Layering is key here, so a black turtleneck goes under a striped work shirt and knitted midi. Dramatic sheer red skirting adds flounce, then white socks under stilettos inputs that SATC-worthy twist. Carrie would be proud.
