HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR BEARD AT HOME

So, you can’t pay a visit to your local barbers and you’re faced with trimming, grooming, washing and shaping your beard for the foreseeable. In times like these, some advice from the pros wouldn't go astray, right? Well, to help you out, we spoke to Murdock London's head barber, Sam Hickey, for the lowdown on how to keep it all in check…

1. Go easy on the trim
‘If you want to do a light trim, make sure it’s a light trim! Don’t attempt to take off too much, or restyle your beard with clippers, as it might change the shape or make it look uneven.’

2. Wash your beard

‘Washing your beard is a key step to combating any common itching that comes with facial hair. Use a beard shampoo and conditioner once or twice a week to maintain a healthy appearance and improve the way it feels on your face, to keep it feeling softer and fuller.’

3. Comb your beard
‘Make sure you occasionally brush and comb your beard. Facial hair will naturally tangle during the day, so ensure that it’s brushed through to reduce any knots and hair damage.’

4. Look after your skin

‘Make sure you look after your beard – including the skin underneath – and only use products without sulphates or artificial colors, as they won't cause harm to your skin. Applied daily, a beard moisturizer will condition both the facial hair and the skin underneath. Not only does this help to soothe any irritation and combat dry skin, it also helps to transform brittle hairs, injecting moisture to make them healthy and smooth.’

5. Let it grow!
‘A lot of people never have the chance to grow their facial hair, due to work constraints and things getting in the way, so this is your golden opportunity. Drop the razor and let your facial hair cultivate in an attempt to grow that beard you’ve been wanting!’
