A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO SS19 ANIMAL PRINT
By Steven Potter, June 30, 2019
If you’ve been keeping your eye on the major SS19 trends, you’ll have noticed that this year has been largely dominated by bright hues and loud patterns — animal print, in particular. And, if you’re feeling the safari-esque vibe but aren't quite ready to jump headfirst into a tiger-stripe co-ord for the Tuesday night happy hour, we’ve put together a beginner’s look to ease yourself into wilder territory.

The perfect trend to accompany animal-print experimentation? Utility. If stripes/spots/scale motifs are as dangerous to you as the wildlife that inspires them, then neutral tones in relaxed shapes bring the safari feels in a more low-key way. Take the outfit above. It’s got a pocket-laden vest and shorts — more pockets, in fact, than you'll probably ever need. The utility life lends itself nicely to a streetwear-ready edge, so team with an adidas long-sleeved top to pick up some logo points, finishing it off with tonal-AF Nike kicks.
And now for the best part: with a neutral base as strong as this, you can easily experiment with leopard print via a '90s-inspired bucket hat. A small injection of the trend (when we said beginner, we meant it), but a great place to start. Now that wasn't so scary was it? You’ll be rocking that co-ord in no time.
