5 OF THE BEST SS19 SUNGLASSES

OK, so June hasn’t been the sun-drenched month it should have been but that doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself to a new pair of sunglasses. After all, the sun’s coming — right? Picking some new shades should be easy but with more choice than ever, we thought we’d highlight five key styles to get you started...

You can’t talk sunglasses without mentioning Ray-Ban. Serving real shade since 1937, it created some of the best-loved shapes around including other icons such as the Aviator and the Wayfarer. We’ve opted for the Clubmaster but in a tortoiseshell finish. Off the top of our heads, there isn't a casual summer look this pair wouldn't put the finishing touch on. They might be more of an investment piece, but this style is a classic for a reason.

With throwback styles and color schemes seemingly going from strength-to-strength this summer, why not add a dose to your everyday look with these visor-style sunnies from ASOS DESIGN. Rising to dominance alongside shell suits and perms in the '80s, visors may be more of a statement choice but with this being the season of said statements (think animal print and neon), there’s never been a better time to be braver with your shades.

Ah... the humble round lens. One of the very first silhouettes of sunglasses to be introduced way back in the 1900s, but it wasn’t until between the '20s and '30s that they started transitioning from protective eyewear to certified fashion accessory. A favorite of John Lennon, Elton John and even Ozzy Osbourne the classic style also went on to star in some of the most stylish '90s film wardrobes (think The Matrix and Natural Born Killers). The rounded lens have that instantly-cool effect and with lots of different frame and lens colors to choose from on ASOS, there's one for all tastes.

Another design that sits within the nostalgia-tipped spectrum are teeny-weeny styles. This silhouette was again, big in the '90s, but if you wanted a switch-up from the classic round lens, opt for a square style like the above from Jeepers Peepers instead. Think of them as a classic with a '90s edge.

If you want to make more of a statement with your sunglasses but feel a visor style might be a bit much, just opt for a colorful lens like the pair from ASOS DESIGN above. Subtle with a flash of color, they strike the perfect balance between wearable and statement and are probably the easiest way of jumping on this summer’s bolder color scheme. Check these off your festival checklist.
