BRITISH FESTIVAL STREET STYLE
By Steven Potter, June 3, 2019
Festival style is a tricky one. You can’t always guarantee the weather to just do the whole "shorts with a tee" thing for three days straight (we saw what happened at Gov Ball...), so you must prepare for all weather sitches while keeping comfy and cool at all times. To help you with your upcoming event line-up, our UK team went down to Brighton’s The Great Escape festival to see how the guys on the hunt for their new favorite band styled out their weekends. Keep scrolling for six lessons in festival gear...
Chairman of the board(walk)
Who says you can’t channel a smarter vibe for a festival? The guy above is proof that formalizing your festival 'fit can pay off big time. Kicking his look off with a business-ready blazer, he’s combined some pinstripe pants with very sensible shoes for a look that could take him from a sweaty dive bar straight to cocktails on the water. Also, matching those cuff seams to a band tee and the festival-ready shades? This is headline status, for sure.
Packing the essentials
This monochrome look ensures any misfortune with spilt beverages/messy recovery burgers will largely go unnoticed, which is a win in our books. Teamed with the ultimate festival accessory: the fanny pack, this dude answered the eternal question: how many cans will this thing fit? Two, apparently. Cop a Supreme x The North Face piece and the answer is right in front of your eyes. To finish, some chunky Nike Teknos and optic-white socks do the trick.
With a summer full of women’s soccer right around the corner, this gent's got onto the hype early by incorporating a retro jersey into his look. Festivals are hot, sticky, mainly sweaty experiences but all that sweat-wicking soirts tech hidden within means this dude can party more than most, sweat-free and steezy. Throw on a Carhartt WIP jacket for chilly evenings, Reebok Club Cs for yet more vintage goodness, a handy tote for the essentials (more beverages?) and you get a look steeped in style and practicality. And yes, we’re definitely stealing this look all summer long.
Style and practicality seem to be the themes for Brighton’s stylish set as we’ve got yet another piece of sportswear from this guy, this time in the form of a Shamrock Rovers top. Are soccer shirts the new festival uniform? We hope so. In an incredible display of peak 2019 style, he’s topped his look off with leopard-print leggings because, well, festivals, you know?
Now here's a guy that knows his SS19 trends. The vintage shearling overcoat in an earthy hue might not scream "summer festivals" but it's handy to be prepared for all conditions the classic British summer can throw at you. With a fresh white sweatshirt underneath and stone-gray pants making up the rest of the look, he's teamed a cross-body bag with chunky Nike kicks to make sure he's checked colorways and accessories off his festival trend checklist. Good form.
Classic for a reason
Stripes at the seaside? Necessary. Some clichés are too sweet to ignore after all. For a 2019 spin on a timeless base, this guy has opted for a beige bomber jacket for a tonal edge with frayed dadcore-style jeans because is it really a festival without ripped denim? With step counts going into overdrive over the course of most festival weekends, this man's served up a lesson in sensible ready-for-any-weather footwear by completing his outfit with chunky-soled boots. And yes, we have taken notes.
