HOW WE DON'T DO DENIM
By Steven Potter, May 11, 2019
With the warmer weather approaching, you might be after a seasonal switch-up and the easiest place to start is from the ground up. If you’re thinking of trading in your trusty denim for something different, take a look at how the gents behind the scenes at ASOS are representing pants of the non-jean kind.

With utility gear one of the standout trends for the season, an easy way to channel the vibe is to cop a pair of worker-style pants. Do it like our Editorial Creative Nic and opt for a classic khaki hue. Nic’s kept the understated look going throughout with a smart overshirt complete with a sporty zip-up neck.

Alongside the '90s revival that is neon, pastel hues have made a comeback thanks to Givenchy’s and Acne Studios’ SS19 collections. The trick to the look is coordination, something that Matt, our Social Insights Assistant, has nailed perfectly. Starting from the bottom, those punchy pastel cord pants are the ideal statement-style base. Add in a striped sweater featuring the same colors and you’ve got yourself a pastel get-up peaking at expert level. Bravo Matt.

Smart-casual utility and throwback vibes are cool, but what if you want to channel a sportier look this summer? Well, for a lesson in athleisure, check out our Marketing Graduate Ben's super-fresh take on the trend. For some heavyweight '90s feels, you can’t go wrong with Champion joggers and to really drive the sporty message home, he’s opted for a pair of Nike MK2 Tekno sneakers in all their optic-white, chunky glory. With all the print and color down below, he’s kept it simple up top with a staple white T-shirt.

We’re sticking with the fresh feels for this next look put together by Tom, our Junior Designer. Pops of bright color sit nicely between pastels and neon as the go-to colors for this summer, so Tom’s opted to make his cord pants the focal point of this super-clean look. With a sweat and longline tee combo up top, all he had to was match his kicks — and you can’t go wrong with white Vans for summer.
