LOOKS FOR CITY WEDDINGS

Ah, the city wedding. Sounds easy enough, right? But in the ever-changing landscape that is wedding venues, it’s the urban choices that can be the most difficult, dress-code-wise. So, whether you're attending a party at a fancy hotel or celebrating with friends in a repurposed warehouse in Greenpoint, check out the two looks below for some inspo on either side of the spectrum.
The formal one
Let’s start with the slightly fancier of the two. You know the vibe: the elegant hotel venue with cocktails in the bar afterwards, complete with panoramic views of the city below. For this sort of celebration, the classic navy two-piece is a certified win — but it’s the little details that set it apart from a more traditional look.
That peak lapel and double-breasted cut are both hallmarks of a super-sophisticated design. And, with boxy, relaxed tailoring on display during the most recent run of menswear shows, why not opt for some pants in a wide-cut leg? In terms of footwear, your classic Derbies or brogues will do the trick, but loafers with a chain detail add a nice seasonal touch to the outfit.

The not-so-formal one
Maybe your event is a little more low key — a nice park moment perhaps, with a meal in a cool restaurant or a warehouse space afterwards. The more relaxed vibe doesn’t mean you can wear anything (unless you have particularly laid-back friends). It just means you can bend the "rules" of tailoring a little more. For instance, you can embrace neutral shades rather than the classic navy or gray — like the brown blazer and pants above.
Now, T-shirts and suiting were a sartorial sin for a long time, but off-duty occasionwear is now a thing, and it's tailor-made (sorry) for this sort of event. One tip: if you do ditch the blazer later into the evening, tuck your tee in so it still looks smart. Pick up some chunky shoes for extra trend points (and to help with all that dancing you’ll inevitably end up doing).
