3 WAYS TO WEAR GRANDADCORE
By Steven Potter, February 17, 2019
First there was normcore, then came — and now, like a final boss version of this trend, let us introduce: . Turns out your *insert adorable nickname for your grandpa here* has been ’ on you this whole time, doing the whole breaking trends thing without even trying. Don’t worry, we’re shook too... but now’s the time to flex back with looks packed full of geriatric greatness.
In knit to win it
Statement knits are the cornerstone of the g-core movement, and they were also spotted in Iceberg's and Off-White's SS19 collections. Combing two different fruits with a classic argyle pattern definitely shouldn’t work but, this short-sleeve knit proves it does — and we’re here for it. Team with a navy check jacket and pants combo, because, well, does anyone’s grandad not have a check item in their wardrobe? Exactly. Finish the look with sensible white sneakers to make the most of the eye-popping design up top.
Taking g-core out against the elements with this layered look. Pleasingly tonal, with the exception of that green tee, it’s perfectly transitional. Start with a lightweight trench for the (hopefully) warmer weather on the way, teamed with an old-school cardigan for those chillier temps. Possibly the most grandadcore of grandadcore separates. To finish off, ditch the denim in favor of some classic check pants (see: above) and even-more-classic high-top Converse.
We’re sticking with the knit life for this next look but peep that mixed patterning. It’s not just about sweaters though, those retro-style specs might not help with crossword puzzles, but they’ll certainly help you nail this look. Sensible stripes? Another geriatric wardrobe favorite. Just make sure you give the shirt that half-tuck treatment and top it off with some relaxed denim and sturdy loafers. Keep them polished-up real nice for taking the smart-casual levels up a notch, and for receiving pinched-cheeks of approval from grandmas everywhere.
