INSPIRATION AND ADVICE

PFW FW18 STREET STYLE

And, just like that, the FW18 season is done and dusted. It’s been an exciting ride, with the womenswear shows in Paris arguably saving the best till last. Between Chanel staging its show in the woods and the super-sized silhouettes at Balenciaga, it was one not to miss. The street stylers in attendance certainly dressed in their best pieces for the occasion — so, here’s a round-up of our favorite looks from the final leg of fashion week.

For a quick lesson on how to do tonal dressing, just take a look at this guy. Thankfully, we’re long past the days when a man wearing pink would cause a sartorial stir, but pulling off a one-color ensemble is still seen as a risky move. To nail the aesthetic, make sure to include a variety of shades. This fella starts off with a dusty-rose boiler suit and a baby-pink textured coat on top. He finishes off his ’fit with a light-pink scarf, rose-tinted shades and a standout pair of neon-pink kicks.

Remixing streetwear staples with traditional cuts has been a big trend this season, and this street styler executes the look with finesse. To kick off her get-up, she goes for a black graphic-print T-shirt and wears it with a zip-up hoodie in the same shade. On her bottom half, she dons a pair of adidas joggers and sturdy lace-up boots — again, both in black to keep her outfit uniform. To flavor up her outfit, she opts for a fiery-red cross-body bag and a grandad-style heritage check overcoat.

Channeling decades past, the sartorially savvy have also begun to pair their streetwear pieces with ski gear, whether in a camouflage print or in vibrant '80s-inspired colors. This woman opts for a flaming-red number — notice how she layers up big time (Balenciaga, anyone?), choosing to wear an orange hoodie and a mid-washed denim jacket underneath it. To mute her top half, she sticks to black for the rest of her look — a graphic-print beanie and simple slim-fit jeans rounding everything off nicely.

Now, couples wearing complementary outfits is nothing new, but the way that these two pulled off their minimal ensembles deserves a special mention. Referencing Scandi style, the clean lines and abundance of textures involved in both of their looks is what really makes them stand out. Between her oversized aviator jacket and on-trend futuristic shades and his billowing trench coat and chunky-soled sneakers, this is a match made in sartorial heaven.

When it comes to mastering this season’s most hyped trends, this guy’s nailed it and then some. Opting for a subdued color palette, he goes for a padded jacket with an asymmetric zip to stay snug. Down low, he picks a pair of cream joggers with on-point side-stripe detailing as well as contrasting knee panels. Then, he rocks a pair of clean white sneakers and keeps his 'fit laid-back with a staple black cap.
