LFW FW18 STREET STYLE
By Lakeisha Goedluck, February 26, 2018
The FW18 womenswear shows in London turned out to be highly eventful. JW Anderson celebrated ten years on the scene, Christopher Bailey marked the end of his time at Burberry with rainbow-colored threads and the Queen showed up to watch Richard Quinn. To add to the hype, the street stylers in attendance got tongues wagging with their wavy ensembles — so, here’s a round-up of the best looks we spotted.
From Gosha Rubchinskiy to Liam Hodges, one-color tracksuits are where it’s at this season and this guy’s berry much into the trend (sorry). Notice how the white turtleneck underneath his coordinating, cranberry set matches the minimal decoration on his gear and corresponds to his pair of dazzling white kicks. Swerving away from an exclusively streetwear-focused ensemble, he layers up with a heritage check overcoat. To finish, he rounds off his ‘fit with a pair of circular yellow-lens sunglasses.
Channeling your dad’s style has been highly popular over the last few seasons, but now it’s all about borrowing gear from your grandpa. To nail the aesthetic, this street styler starts off strong with a traditional knitted sweater that she pairs with a camel trench coat — a key piece for older gentlemen. Classic slacks and chunky pops-approved sneakers make for a grandfatherly finish, but metallic shades and a Supreme fanny pack add an up-to-date twist to her ensemble.
No, this isn’t Travis Scott, but this fella’s gear game is arguably on the same level as the famously steezy MC. Teaming several textures together is no easy feat, but this guy manages it with finesse. Sticking to a somber color palette, he wears his washed blue T-shirt with a knitted cardigan and an oversized distressed leather jacket. Combat pants, lace-up boots and a corduroy Polo Ralph Lauren cap complete an outfit that we’re fully feeling.
Pairing a graphic-print T-shirt with a vertical-striped shirt is an undeniably bold move. So, to carry off such a statement ’fit, you have to consider your color palette. This lady teams her standout top half with pants in a neutral shade and a pair of all-white sneakers to bring a sense of balance to her look. She also incorporates carefully chosen hints of color to flavour her ensemble — take note of the mustard-yellow collar on her trench coat and those quirky pastel-green shades.
Ostentatious outfits are always a common sight at fashion week, so it makes for a refreshing change when someone rocks up in a look that’s far more subtle. When it comes to sporting relaxed cuts, your silhouette matters most. This guy knows the deal in terms of oversized picks — he goes for a slouchy dark-colored hoodie that he pairs with a big, brightly-colored overcoat. You’ve also gotta take your hat off to him for matching the motif on his cap to the color of his outerwear choice. Subtle, but satisfying.
