MFW MEN'S FW18 STREET STYLE
By Matt Glazebrook, January 18, 2018
If the big news on the Milan Fashion Week Men’s FW18/19 runways were Prada’s techily literal take on janitor chic and some on-the-nose interpretations of westernwear from the likes of Dsquared2 and Palm Angels, then the story on the sidewalks outside the shows was a more hodge-podge, trend-omnivorous affair. Here are a few memorable mash-ups we spotted...
Meet Mario, he’s a handsome Italian exchange student. When he’s not riding a Vespa, seducing your girlfriend and making a perfect cacio e pepe, he likes to do some lovely color work with his preppy, Paninaroesque gear. This navy tee, salmon denim jacket and high-waisted tan pants confection, for instance.
"Alexa, show me all of the FW17/18 trends at once." And after scrolling through page after page of Google image search results, "Alexa, how about all the trends but in a single, close-up picture?" Hold my beer, says this guy, zipping his techy, '90s-neon track jacket over a classic pinstripe workshirt, and buttoning a puffer jacket (in heritage check) (with a shearling lining) over the top.
You’ve got two main ways to go with the hoodie-under-overcoat (AKA "just popped out for a bottle of milk but accidentally look super cool doing it") sartorial move. You can go for a neutral coat in gray, camel or black, and add some graphic interest with your sweat, or you flip it and throw a bold patterned top-layer over a monochrome base. Like this guy here, winning bonus points for his minimal black accessories at the same time.
