HOW TO WEAR: WINTER COATS
By Lakeisha Goedluck, December 4, 2017
We’re into the final month of the year, so if you’ve been soldiering on with a transitional jacket up until now, it’s time to switch out your lightweight layer for a sturdier, cold-weather-ready option. Luckily, there are plenty of key styles to choose from this season — whether you go for a '90s-inspired puffer jacket or a timeless extra-long overcoat, here’s how to optimize your outerwear this winter.

When it comes to fashionable fabrics this season, borg is right up there with corduroy. Whether you opt for a coat with a cozy borg lining or an all-over affair such as this one, the material will provide much-needed insulation to help you combat the plummeting temperatures.

Pair your coat with skatewear staples to create a snug, laid-back ensemble. Layer a graphic-print hoodie underneath and wear it tucked into a pair of on-trend tan pants. Make sure to roll the cuffs to show off your standout socks and hi-top Converse sneakers.

This season, traditional outerwear styles have made a serious comeback. From windowpane check to timeless tweed, opt for a longline coat in a heritage pattern to add a refined vibe to your look. Wear your coat with some retro-flavored knitwear, as seen on the FW17 runways at the likes of Kenzo, Prada and Marni.

Rock a plain white T-shirt underneath a V-neck sweater to do something a little different with your neckline. Down low, offset the formality of your top half with a pair of adidas trackies and monochrome kicks.

Stick to stripes and pick similar pants in a darker hue to show that you can experiment with tones. Finish off with a pair of Air Max 95s which incorporate the various colors of your get-up to effortlessly tie your look together.

This year, the half-zip has reigned supreme. From fleecy iterations to lightweight waterproof designs such as the one shown here, it’s an essential piece to get on board with this season. As the style is especially popular amongst streetwear fans, master the aesthetic by wearing a fanny pack across your top half.
