HOW WE DO: FW17 COATS AND JACKETS
By Matt Glazebrook, December 16, 2017
It’s the proper depths of winter now — time for even the hardiest of us to admit that chattering teeth and a windbreaker aren’t going to cut it for our cold-weather 'fit. Step forward, ASOS HQ’s coziest: here to show you how they navigate the nasty weather stylishly in a selection of FW17’s key coats and jackets.

Super furry outerwear

With a toasty top-layer checking all the trend boxes, Sam keeps the rest of the look low-key — slim navy Dickies chinos, a retro stripe tee in a muted shade and some off-white Reebok Workouts that tie in with the color of his jacket nicely.

Peak coziness

Edging his alpine coat into streetwear territory, Nic balances his puffer with crisp, straight-leg selvedge jeans and chunky black Reeboks.

Harrington kit
The mid-weight Harrington jacket might not have the frost-battling qualities of some of its outerwear brethren, but it’s a strong option on milder days, and can be layered up — like artworker Nawal’s done here with his chunky hoodie — to suitably snug effect.

Trench steez

Cuffed black joggers, athletic socks and all-white Nikes are the comfy-casual companions here — making for a look that’s got steezy Sunday brunch on a brisk day written all over it.

Winter blues
Overcoats and hoodies have been the go-to smart-casj combo for mooching moodily around windswept streets for a couple of winters now. Senior editor Matt brings a bit of festive cheer to the downbeat double-up, pairing his black Carhartt sweatshirt with a brilliant blue double-breasted cover-up that taps into FW17’s penchant for ankle-grazing lengths.

Big, boxy coats form part of the normcore arsenal championed by Balenciaga, Martine Rose et al this season. Matt references the vibe for all things basic and '90s with chunky dad sneakers and stonewash jeans.
