HOW TO WEAR: RETRO KNITWEAR
By Lakeisha Goedluck, November 4, 2017
From this year's FW17 runway shows to the current aesthetic of on-point street stylers, channeling old-school dressing is still very much on-trend this season. If you want to take it back to decades past, try rocking a retro knit with your up-to-date threads. Give your style a vintage edge this fall with our selection of out-there knitwear…
If runway collections from the likes of Coach and Marni are anything to go by, paying homage to the '70s via knitwear seems to be the vibe for FW17. Follow suit and pick a striped knitted polo layered over a white T-shirt with a velour zip-thru overshirt for a seriously retro take on transitional layering.
Complement the navy striping on your top half and go for classic windowpane-check pants in the same hue. Round off your look with a pair of monochrome kicks for a clean finish to a pattern-heavy ensemble.
Alongside retro-look duds, skater-style pieces continue to reign supreme over our wardrobe rotations this fall. Marry the two aesthetics together and create a casual get-up worthy of taking to the streets. Opt for a checked half-zip to show your knit connoisseurship extends to '90s vintages, and add a graphic printed tee from the golden age of hip-hop to continue the theme.
Give your look some sporty flavor by pairing your knit with steezy tracksuit bottoms. Layer a horizontally striped top over a half-zip for a sporty feel, while, down low, contrast the colorful top half with black-and-white tracksuit pants.
Notice how the single vertical stripe complements the patterning of your knitted tee but offers up a subtle twist. Stick to fresh, icy kicks to allow a thread of neutral white to permeate your look.
