Long-sleeved and short-sleeved combo

The double-tee trick is one that the skater crowd is well-known for, and it's always a good go-to look during spring. But with the right pairing, the technique can also be utilized to great effect in the summer months too. If you're down for dressing boldly, follow in this fella's footsteps and opt for a striped base layer and wear a polo shirt covered in stripes running in the opposite direction over the top. The trick is to go monochrome with your bottom half for an easy-on-the-eye aesthetic.

Shacket and tee

Although fewer layers are usually needed in summer, it’s all about keeping things simple and having a versatile jacket at your disposable for when the clouds inevitably appear. A classic shacket is your best bet, boasting the form of your favorite shirt but the wind-beating ability of a classic cover-up. This guy has selected a clean, white number that'll keep him cool but also has nice structure to it to give his ensemble a refined element — just what you need when you're sporting a grandad-flavored flat cap.

Brightly colored jacket

If you’re clued up when it comes to FW18 trends, you’ll know that emergency orange is the color to get on board with. Spotted on the catwalk at the likes of Christopher Ræburn, Versace and Moncler, to name a few, it’s a sound idea to start stocking up on pieces in the shade now. Take this guy: he pairs his orange jacket with a classic white T-shirt and black slacks to ensure his standout layer is the focal point of his ’fit. Now that's what we call dressing with zest.

Harrington jacket and graphic-print tee

From its roots as a golfing staple to its current cult status, you can never go wrong with a sturdy Harrington jacket — especially in summer. With the right amount of bulk to protect you from the elements but lightweight enough to be thrown on top of any foundation layer, go for one in a darker color so that it’ll last you season after season. Copy this guy and team yours with a graphic-print T-shirt and a steezy bucket hat to nail the biggest trends of SS18.

Sweatshirt over T-shirt

Now, let’s be honest — a sweatshirt is the ultimate "I don’t have time to be stressing about what to wear" gear. Heavy night last night and need to get to your lecture in half an hour? Sweatshirt it is. But just because it’s one of the more relaxed items in your arsenal, that doesn’t mean that the humble layer doesn’t pack some serious sartorial power. Make like this guy and opt for a simple sweat in a subdued color for a get-up that’s got Scandi minimalism written all over it.
