NEW FW17 TREND: SCANDI SKATE
By Sam Higgins, August 11, 2017
The end of summer doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. Although we say goodbye to Sunday BBQs and pack away the shorts for another year, we welcome back the opportunity to curate some stylish, layered 'fits. Look to our new Scandi skate trend to get your new-season wardrobe off to a solid start.
To make the transition to the colder months easier, our new trend doesn’t stray too far from your favorite summer styles.
Here, Scandi staples are updated, combining 2017’s key textures with relaxed fits for a seasonal reworking that doesn’t slack on eccentricity.
The FW17 take on Scandi flips the style’s core principles on its head while ensuring the Nordic love for wider cuts and workwear runs through every piece. That means muted minimalism is replaced with clashing patterns, a bolder palette and a greater focus on texture.
Cord, borg and knitwear all make a return to your cold-weather arsenal, while key pieces include polo shirts, overhead jackets and baggy pants.
We weren’t short on catwalk inspiration during the FW17 shows with everyone from Calvin Klein to AMI clashing textures and giving retro cuts a smart, contemporary edge.
However, it was most notable at Palm Angel’s Milan showcase, which channeled the modern LA skater kid via striped rugby shirts, and Marni, where it was all about striped knits, drop-shoulder fluffy jackets and pants that kiss the floor.
