PFW FW17: MEN'S STREET STYLE

While the fashion biz’s eyes were on Dries Van Noten’s 100th runway show, as well as Rihanna's second, we've been looking beyond the Paris Fashion Week catwalks. But not that far beyond. Just outside the door, really, at the stylish guys lining up outside the shows.

Look at Captain Comfort here, gliding through the City of Light on a soft cloud of casual cool. Nicely worn-in leather biker jacket, super cozy, canary-yellow wooly hat, and a gray-marl Air Jordan sweatshirt the exact same shade as the salt and pepper in his beard. It's a masterpiece of not looking like you're trying too hard.
Textures and patterns are big news in menswear at the moment, which is good news for this guy, who's wearing all of them at once. A teddy-fur coat, a ribbed sweater that's both spliced and adorned with two different sets of stripes, and pleated blue pants with a cheeky checked lining exposed via a rolled cuff. His sneakers are (what else?) knitted, and we’re willing to wager he's got corduroy undies on under all that.

This dude’s got a bit of split personality thing happening, but he’s holding it together admirably. We’re not sure the owner of those pointy, buckled, punk-rock-princeling shoes would even talk to the owner of that boxy, '90s hip-hop denim jacket, much less be the same person. Same with the pin-striped workshirt, hypebeast-issue Vetements x Champion hoodie and leopard-print clutch. But here they all are, blended together seamlessly by one walking, posing fashion contradiction of a man.
Fella’s got some Balenciaga/Dries Van Noten FW17, boxy, '80s-tailoring vibes going on with his slightly oversized overcoat. But he’s layered a streetwear-fresh logo hoodie underneath in a move straight from the FW16 shows. Fashion's seasonal distinctions mean nothing to this menswear maverick.
A real traffic-stopper of a look from this guy, with his super-monochrome under-layers and contrasting camo jacket on top. Or maybe it’s the fact that, with his alternating blocks of black and white clothing, he’s cleverly referencing the zebra crossing he’s walking on that's made the cars grind to a halt in appreciation. Or maybe it’s just that drivers waiting for pedestrians at a zebra crossing is the actual law. We don’t know — this is Style Feed not Traffic Safety Feed. Jeez.
