STYLISH STARS IN STRIPES
By Sam Higgins, July 4, 2017
It’s the Fourth of July — parades are filling the streets, flags are being proudly flown and fireworks are being prepared for night-time spectacles. And while you’ll probably see plenty of patriotic Uncle Sam costumes and several stars-and-stripes concoctions, we’ve instead decided to mark Independence Day by taking a good look at some of the most stylish stars in stripes.

Brooklyn Beckham
You won’t find many well-dressed guys without a classic Breton tucked away in their closet. While most opt for the versatile black-and-white number, Brooklyn earned his style stripes by being bold in a bumblebee Breton. The hi-vis upgrade was executed to perfection, with young Becks surrounding the top with the dark hues of his slim-fit jeans and overcoat and leaving the yellow to bring a playful pop of colour to an otherwise monochromatic get-up.

Robert Pattinson
He might not find his way into the public eye as often as we’d like, but when he does step out, R-Patz always ensures he’s in his finest threads. Here's his take on travel style — elevating the casualwear game to new levels in a striped JW Anderson jacket. The statement outerwear piece shows off a gradual change of gradient with every block line, giving his outfit a strong, clean-cut, tonal feel. If we were him, we’d have someone else pushing that luggage carousel and we’d be right out in front, showing off our stripes with pride.

YG
You can definitely appreciate how criminally good Compton's own YG's black-and-white striped pants are. While many use their boldest patterns up top and allow the bottom half to set a solid foundation, the rapper flipped this convention on its head and let his pants do all the talking.

Kendrick Lamar
It may have been a couple of days early, but Kendrick Lamar paid a fitting tribute to his home nation with a red, white and blue sweatshirt at his performance at London's British Summer Time last year. K-Dot was all smiles at Hyde Park, and no wonder: the summer sun was finally making an appearance, and his glorious old sweatshirt provided a seriously stylish statement paired with light-wash ripped jeans and white kicks.

A$AP Rocky
Not that we needed any more proof, but we’re convinced you can give A$AP Rocky absolutely anything to wear and he’ll make it look cool. Here’s the rapper and style icon looking as if he’s teleported straight from the '70s on to the stage in a knitted turtleneck. The fine stripes, delivered in a nostalgic palette, provide a neat contrast, giving this top the ability to become an effective, eye-catching layer in colder weather or be equally impressive on its own during summer.

Frank Ocean
Another fine set of fine stripes, this time courtesy of enigmatic R&B experimentalist Frank Ocean. The muted reddy-brown hues give the singer’s striped tee a '70s vibe, while the oversized-but-tucked-in silhouette and embroidered micro-logo are straight from the SS17 playbook. Subtly coordinating his top with a fresh, pinkish, hair dye job, on the other hand, is a sartorial tweak all of Ocean’s own.
