Simply put, Kanye West knows how to smash it in the wardrobe department. So it should come as no surprise that, as temperatures plummet, it’s his outerwear collection we look to for inspiration. Join us as we examine Kanye’s anthology of life-changing coats and jackets. It’s going to be emotional.

Into the blue

A heavy, cerulean topcoat with a fur trim (we hope that fur is faux, Yeez) — this is the clothing equivalent of throwing another log on the fire. Turning the temperature up with a brush of fuzz at the collar is also a nice way to play with proportions, as it broadens the upper half of your torso and makes your waist appear narrower.

Dyed in the wool

A wool overcoat should form the foundation of every man’s winter wardrobe. The clean cut and color of Kanye’s means it’s versatile, so it can be smartened up with a pair of Derbies and some tailoring or dressed down with sneakers and sweats on your say so. It’s also buttonless, which helps keep the lines sharp and brings a cool, contemporary edge to an otherwise timeless classic.

Right as rain(coat)

On days when the weather delivers surprise deluges by the literal bucketful, it pays to have a reliable trench at hand. A light, weatherproof piece of gear, like Kanye’s raincoat, also provides a great covering when you’re wearing a suit because it’s streamlined and won’t add bulk.

Pack a camel

Is Ye single-handedly responsible for the current popularity of the camel overcoat? Probs. Owning one of these overcoats offers the sweet relief of knowing you won’t ever have to buy another coat again.

Go classic with a bomber

Of course, it’s hard to look bad when you’re dripping in head-to-toe Givenchy. But by crowning his outfit with a simple black bomber jacket, Kanye’s taken this look back from the brink of tacky.

Camo is undergoing a major resurgence, in no small part due to the influence of the four utilitarian/military-style Yeezy collections. Kanye signalled his pattern obsession early on, rocking this ace vintage Raf Simons camouflage bomber jacket to Paris Fashion Week. It goes without saying that camo can take pretty much anything the winter elements can thrown at it, but — softened with neutral shades and monochromes — it cleans up pretty nicely.

Shear genius

Shearling is not only winter's cosiest jacket-lining option, it's Ye's latest textural obsession. Fleecy bits have warmed Kanye's cockles all year long, often in the form of key pieces from his Yeezy line. There's the black hooded leather number that's become his FW16 staple and the giant football-manager-meets-Game-of-Thrones parka that accompanied him on a spring trip to Iceland. Get on borg.
