HOW TO DRESS: BIGGER GUYS
By Gavin Jewkes, July 12, 2018
The good news for those of us who are on the bigger side is that there are so many solid new options when it comes to rebooting your style this season. From the tailoring tips you might not have considered to the staple pieces you can turn to all year round, here are our favorite ways to rethink your wardrobe.
If it's baggy, ditch it
It can be tempting to go for baggy styles, but poorly fitting shirts, sweaters and jackets can look sloppy. Instead, source threads that fit close to the body (without being too tight), as this reduces the chances of bunching or creases in the fabric. Because a fitted white tee under a tailored bomber jacket is always a win.
Finding a suit that fits well can be tricky for any body shape, but there are so many great (and well-priced) suits for bigger guys out there. From the classic two-piece to heritage-check styles, once you've found your dream suit it'd be a shame if you only got to wear it a couple of times a year (hello, wedding season). So why not try styling it with some laid-back pieces for a more chill vibe? Plus, a quick tip to making sure your suit looks its best is to always keep a single button fastened on your suit jacket — this ensures the fabric sits close so you maintain those clean, tailored lines.
Never forget the power of basics. A crisp white tee, tailored pants in a rich tone (try bottle green or burgundy) and box-fresh kicks = pared-back perfection. Swap the pants out for some Aztec-print shorts come festival season and add a chunky knit and tailored coat when winter rolls around. Too easy.
