HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN FACE COVERING
By Laura Cochrane-Davies, 18 June 2020
First, find some old cotton you’re happy to cut up. A worn-out band tee, some cool fabric you just happened to pick up on a mates' hol to Ibiza... whatever – just make sure it’s clean and that you can wash it frequently. Grab some scissors, a tape measure and two elastic bands or hair ties, and you’re good to go.
Cut the fabric about 10 inches long and fold it in half so it’s wide enough to cover your nose and mouth comfortably. Slide over the elastic bands at each end so there’s approx. six inches between them in the centre. Then fold the two sides inwards and tuck the loose ends behind the front-facing part of the mask. Hold it against your face while you loop the bands around your ears – you can adjust the width if needed just by pulling the fabric along.
And you're done! Pop it in your bag, so you're good to go. And if that wasn’t easy enough, watch Morgan, our Social Media Exec, take you through it step by step.
We’re also offering our own non-medical face coverings, too, if you don’t want the hassle of making one. Washable and reusable, coming in packs of two and with loads of printed designs – if you’re choosing to wear one RN, we’ll have the one for you. And we’re donating £1 from every sale of the ASOS DESIGN products to Oxfam's Coronavirus Emergency Response Appeal.
As part of our ASOS Supports initiatives, we’re determined to find ways to help you, our communities, charities and our frontline heroes get through this – whether it’s our charity T-shirts or sending care packages to our local-to-ASOS hospitals. And, as government advice varies on wearing face coverings at the mo, we wanted to have another way we can support you, our ASOSers.
Everyone’s trying to find their new normal. We want ours and yours to be about helping each other through the tough times, as well as all the fun.
