FLAT LAY

YOUR CARNIVAL-INSPIRED 'FIT FOR SS19

By Steven Potter, 23 August 2019

Bank holiday weekend means one more glorious day off to enjoy but it’s also carnival weekend too. The annual celebration of Caribbean culture kicks off in London’s Notting Hill and it’s pretty much the street party of the year. So, if you’re heading there for the music, the parade and the delicious food – or you just want to channel the vibe in your local this Saturday – you’re going to need a look that mirrors carnival's colour-drenched aesthetic.
A flay-lay outfit including a brightly coloured shirt, black denim shorts, Nike trainers and sunglasses. Available at ASOS.

Into Scandi-esque neutrals? Sorry pal, it's best to swap the safe tones out for neon and in-your-face graphics to really get into the spirit of things. Luckily, Collusion have just dropped the shirt above that's styled out with all this year’s most vibrant hues. Ideal for tapping into the party atmosphere and, as an added bonus, perfect for getting spotted in the crowd when you lose your mates for the sixth time that day. Incredibly, another heatwave could be on the cards, so just add in some black denim shorts to make the most of the shirt and the sunshine, and the least of any unfortunate food spillages. Trust us.

If you’re really going to ‘do’ carnival, there’s going to be a lot of dancing involved – there’s 36 different sound-systems to check out, after all. This means comfort is key and whatever kicks you end up picking – they've got to deliver. Step up the Air Max 200s, the most recent addition to Nike’s air-cushioned family. Just grab a pair complete with colourful accents that match your shirt and there you have it: the ideal combo of style and practicality. And finally, to round off the look on a sunny bank holiday weekend? A pair of sweet sunglasses, of course.
