HOW WE DO WORLD CUP KITS
By Steven Potter, 5 June 2019
The Champions League may be over but there’s heaps of international football just around the corner. Yep, we're talking the Women's World Cup, which starts Friday 7 June. Everyone's favourite sports brand Nike has designed the kits for each of the teams, as well as creating some sweet soccer shirts so fans can rep for their team. For a little inspiration on how to style it out, here's how the peeps at ASOS HQ are wearing theirs now.
Getting behind the Lionesses is Junior Designer Seb, representing in the England home strip. Opting for a more tonal approach, he’s offset the crisp white of the jersey with beige trousers for a smart-casual take on terrace style. Then, he’s complimented the classic look further by adding clean-AF Air Force 1s. Just watch out for any drink spillages during the celebrations, mate.
In terms of getting dressed up for the main event, Coco, our Junior Stylist, is serving up a lesson in more is more and we’re taking notes for sure. No points for guessing the team she's backing, but, in a big power move, she's dialled up the look with those eye-popping statement trousers. Well, chaps, if you want to go hard on the support, this is the way to do it. Hidden details on the top include names of all the US states as a tonal print to the back, while tying it all together and keeping this look super fresh below are the Nike Shox R4 kicks.
Next up, we’ve got Tom, another of our Junior Designers, representing the French away kit. For a full summer ‘fit, he's opted for pale pink shorts matching the team’s embroidery on the chest with Vapormax kicks down below. Perfect for offering some squishy comfort while you're jumping up and down wildly in celebration.
Sticking with the French theme but this time it’s the home strip that gets an outing. Kate, another of our Junior Designers, has opted for a monotone approach with a sprinkling of streetwear influence in the form of those relaxed techy trackies. It’s a laid-back ‘fit perfect for chilling with friends for the big game, or even a low-key pub garden if the weather permits.
Seb’s back again, this time in the England away shirt. That’s dedication. It features a subtle floral print throughout and each flower on show is, in fact, native to England. There's some half-time chat for you right there. And he’s kept the colour palette bright for the summer with smart teal trousers. Throw a denim or Harrington jacket over the top and you’ve got a look that can take you from BBQ with your pals to (hopefully) celebratory drinks after the final whistle.
