5 SMART STATEMENT PIECES
By Steven Potter, 20 May 2019
Ah, events season. Yep, it's that time of the year again, lads, with weddings, work parties and invites in general coming thick and fast. And while going classic in neutral tones is the safest option, we say it's way more fun to stand out from the crowd and have some fun with your 'fit. So, we’ve pulled together an edit of the five best statement smart separates to give your look that best-dressed-guest status.
A poppin’ blazer is a fast-track way to channel a ‘bold is best’ approach to your tailoring. With all the colour up top, team with a white shirt and some understated black or grey trews to tone the look down. If it’s more of a low-key affair, ditch the shirt and opt for a fresh, plain tee underneath instead.
Have I got trews for you
Maybe you’ve got a an event that a blazer might be too formal for, like a wedding abroad or a work do? This is where some statement trousers work perfectly. Classic beige has been updated with some bold stripes in the option above and, let’s be fair, stripes are always a win. Family BBQ? Try these with a tee tucked in and some loafers.
Good as gold
Ok, so this next pair of trews is pretty out there, but we are talking statement separates... Gold-tone satin-style trousers are a big look and they certainly don’t need much more to go fully 'statement' – a plain white shirt will tone this option down in a flash. Plus, with Rocketman hitting cinemas soon, this is a great way to channel some Elton John vibes.
The right stripes
Yes, stripes are a classic option – but that doesn’t mean you can’t give them a statement spin. The bold orange stripes on this number are a sort of entry-level eye-catching move, and its gold-tone, satin-style lining is a nice standout detail. Matching trews are available too.
Is this blazer smart-summer style personified? We think so. With a jacquard-style design and a contrast stripe running through, this is BDE (best-dressed energy) for sure. If you want a full statement look, find some trousers in the same hue as the floral details. Go bold or go home, we say.
