INSPIRATION AND ADVICE
HOW WE DO LOOKS FROM THE SS19 MAG
By Steven Potter, 24 March 2019
With warmer climes on the way, feeling the sand between your toes under blue skies is quickly becoming a legitimate possibility rather than a pipe dream. But what if said beach is Margate on a slightly blustery, overcast day? Well, Babz, our Cultural Marketing Coordinator, is serving up a lesson in transitional dressing fit for the winteriest of spring days. With a stand-out lightweight mac from ASOS WHITE – featuring virtually every hype colour for SS19 – stealing the inter-seasonal show, he’s opted to keep things casual elsewhere with skinny jeans and Air Jordans. Peep the colour-matching skills on those highlights, though.
For a more sun-drenched vibe, this lightweight shirt with all-over embroidery is pretty much warm weather in shirt form thanks to that golden-yellow hue. Tom, our Junior Designer, has taken a certified summer look and made it spring by popping a long-sleeved tee underneath for those not-quite-so-hot days and paired it with black trousers and sparkly-white Vans to make the most of that detail up top.
If you’re not quite ready for the full embroidered experience, there’s loads of great plain revere-collar shirts to cop for a springtime update. Using the shirt as a base, you can build your look up and add a tie-dye jacket and check trews from the ‘fit on the left, or make like Andrew, our Content Specialist, and channel a coordinated Scandi vibe with a cross-body and cropped trousers. Your choice.
Sticking to a slightly smarter tone, our Riverdale cover star KJ Apa shows off the power of a tonal ‘fit for your more formal functions. And with rich, colour-drenched tailoring set to be a big deal in AW19, now’s the time to add some heavy-hitting hues to your suit rotation. For a more office/date-night kinda look, Josh, our Marketing Graduate, has dressed the blazer down with skinny black jeans, a plain tee and boxfresh trainers. Think of it as your transitional office-to-bar ‘fit.
With floral prints and 70s hues of golden brown and rust set to be popular colours and print choices for SS19, why not channel both of these key looks in one statement pair of trews? Team with a chunky knit for chilly spring temps, like our model above, or, for warmer vibes, opt for an overshirt in a tonal colourway, matching boots from Dr. Martens and a white tee. Styled out with serious 70s-inspired aplomb by our Senior Editor, Matt.
Taking a look at a true warm-weather getup now, check out KJ adding a smouldering edge to a smart-casual 'fit in a washed-out lilac shirt with plain trews. Ben, our Marketing Graduate, has gone full summercore with the same shirt by throwing on a pair of black shorts in a relaxed cut. Adding a sportswear-inspired edge, Ben's opted for Champion socks complete with chunky Nike Tekno kicks in an almost-all-white colourway for peak freshness. You can thank Ben for your 2019 festival look.
