STYLING

SLOPE STYLE WITH ASOS 4505 AND THE NORTH FACE

Whether you’re a skier or boarder, your slope look needs to meet the demands of your frozen playground as well as the all-important après ski afterwards. Serving up ice-cold styles in weather-blocking tech fabrics is no mean feat, but these two 'fits below from ASOS 4505 and The North Face prove it's possible. And we've put the gear to the test with professional mogul skier Marius Bourdette – so keep scrolling to see how he got on and read our chat with the athlete.

ASOS 4505

For big throwback vibes, it doesn’t get much better than tie-dye. Let’s face it, it’s not every day you get to channel sun-drenched beach style as you're carving up the black run. Here, Marius puts the ski jacket and pants combo through its paces as he perfects his mogul technique on the slopes. The result: a blur of kaleidoscopic tekkers. If the tie-dye two-piece is a bit much for you, try the jacket or trousers as a standalone with more subtle ski garms.

Apart from channeling a bold-is-best aesthetic, the jacket and trousers also come with that all-important weatherproofing to keep Marius dry and comfortable on the slopes. Both pieces are cut in a relaxed shape – ideal for that slalom technique – while a waterproof outer layer and internal taped seams keep any storms at bay. Excess heat is released through the fabric’s breathable design and underarm zip vents can be opened to keep Marias chilled after working up a sweat.

The North Face

You may know it as the coveted, Supreme-collaborating streetwear label, but The North Face is, at heart, an activewear brand. With a range of bold ski separates, you can take its urban-centric looks straight to the slopes. The Decendit jacket and Presena snow pants both use TNF’s DryVent technology, which is a justifiably fancy term for the fabric's waterproof and breathable design. Nailing PBs is hard work, but, luckily, the fabric's breathability keeps Marius cool in, well, cooler conditions.

That snowball fight might look like fun, but it's a serious weatherproofing test in disguise, trust. Thankfully, TNF’s Denali fleece passed with flying (purple and black) colours. Marius could laugh the barrage off in style with the warming fleece working as a cold-blocking baselayer. You can also wear the Denali when you’re kicking back with your pals at the après-ski for some added streetwear-influenced steez. Just leave out the story of you face-planting on the blue run, yeah?

Here's what Marius had to say about his reasons to move:

When did you start skiing?
I started skiing when I was only 14 months old and started moguls skiing at 12, after seven years of slalom skiing.

Who inspires you?
Someone who inspires me is Casey Andringa, an American athlete, who performed the first cork 10 driver grab at the Olympics in Korea.

What tips do you have for people struggling to get motivated?
If I had to give any tips to someone struggling to get motivated, I'd tell them: have you ever felt the feeling of pride that comes with successfully achieving something you’ve never done before? If the answer is no, then get up and move yourself!
